Wanata’s expertise in chemical straightening began nine years ago when she developed a breakthrough technique that allowed her to use the newly introduced Japanese straightening process on African American hair types. At that time most stylists thought the Japanese process could not be applied to ethnic hair because of the variety of textures. However, Wanata specialized application technique was able to successfully accommodate the myriad textures of “troubled hair” and allowed a whole new clientele the opportunity to experience the new straightening technique. Wanata’s work and career have been highlighted in many magazines including Marie Claire, Angeleno Magazine, Launch Pad and Suede Magazine. Wanata also regularly styles hair for photo shoots and t.v. makeovers and has appeared on the Tyra Banks show, the Dr.Phil show, MTV and Fox News.
